This is to help people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) who can't make it to the next exit or rest stop. Many people with IBD have urgency issues and when they feel like they have to go, have only minutes to get to a bathroom. These port-o-potties would help out everyone that are miles away from an exit or rest stop.

For years, I have suffered from CROHN’S DISEASE or ULCERATIVE COLITIS, a disease which, among many other side effects, causes me to use the restroom more than a normal person and usually with a sense of urgency
Traveling with IBD is no easy task and this is where I can use your help. When travelling by automobile on our interstates and thruways, there can be many miles between rest stops and exits. This is not helpful to IBD patients as sometimes we need to use a bathroom within seconds of feeling the urge. We cannot wait for the next exit or rest stop and many of us have pulled over to the side of the road to relieve ourselves at the risk of getting in trouble with the police. It is an unpleasant sight, but it is the reality we face every time we travel.
I am asking for your support to introduce a piece of legislation requiring that small parts of the shoulder on our major highways are cleared out and filled with Port-A-Potties. I know this is a big undertaking. However, there are many positives that can be associated with this proposal. You would be setting a precedent for other states to follow suit to help the 1.4 million Americans who suffer with inflammatory bowel disease, not to mention the other diseases that cause bathroom urgency. Additionally, this proposal would create real, direct jobs for construction workers who desperately need work.
I am aware that this is not something that can happen overnight, but it would be great to start the process of looking into possible legislation for this idea. There are many state government’s out there that are finally recognizing the severity of inflammatory bowel disease by passing Ally’s Law. Also known as the Restroom Access Act, this law is a great help to us when we are in an urban setting. However, when we are out in rural areas or long stretches of highway where there is nowhere to go, this would help us out immensely.
I thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. With your help, I think greater awareness can be made for a very embarrassing disease that is not often talked about. I look forward to talking with you in the future regarding this important legislative idea.
