There have been too many reports of small children being forgotten in cars and left to suffer a terrible death, leaving the parents or caregiver to live out their lives with that guilt. My petition is to propose that USDOT and NHTSA implement a new seatbelt safety standard that will require all new vehicles to be equipped with an alarm that alerts the driver when any seatbelt is still in the locked/clicked position after the driver's seatbelt is removed. 

This sounding alarm would alert the driver to check the back seatbelts and potentially save a life.
