The Issue

Let me get straight to the point, Avid is downright USELESS. For us early college students, it's mandatory. It does not help you at all and most kids can agree with that. So many kids get extra stress due to this program. Now, I'll tell you why this program utterly useless.
It's impractical, illogical, inconvenient, and straining. They make us do binder checks and planner checks and sometimes even backpack checks. They go on and on about binders and how useful they are, but in truth, it's the complete opposite. Binders take up way too much space, make everything crowded, are bulky, and heavy. It takes so much work to just get one thing out of a binder and putting the binder back into the backpack is sometimes as equally as hard as getting it out. You know what's a million times better than a binder? A folder. You can get a regular folder or the ones with dividers or just multiple colored ones. A lot of people I know use folders. Folders are convient, practical, light, and simple. Some people might say folders are less organized than binders, but that's not true. It's not that folder that matters, it's actually the person using that folder that matters. Anyone can find a way to organize stuff with a folder. Everyone has their own way of organizing. As long as people can find where their stuff quickly, easily, and efficiently, there should be no problem whatsoever. On the other hand, Avid forces us to use one way of organizing for everyone and it's not practical. It's like prescribing the same exact medicine for every patient with different needs, which ultimately results in death. Then they expect us to use that one method for the rest of our lives, which is complete bull.
Let's move on to planners. Planners aren't  that much of a problem, but the fact that they make it mandatory is just absurd. Just like binders, Everyone has their own way of memorizing and keeping track of things, yet they make us write in our planner everyday. Some people can go through the school year without a planner or any type of tracking method and still be fine, and I'm one of those people. Some people can just do reminders or notes on their phone and keep track like that. Forcing people to do planners when they don't need to is just a waste of time, paper, and resources.
All right, let's go to the most hated topic, TRF's. TRF stands for "Tutorial Request Form". It's where you have to fill out this two sided piece of paper just to get help on a subject. It's dumb because it makes getting helped so complicated and so extra. We have to put an essential question or topic, initial question, 2 vocabulary terms and their definitions, write out the steps you took up to where you got confused, and your point of confusion question. Worse of all, we have to present our TRF up on the board with a group of people watching. The stupidest thing is the fact that TRF's are mandatory and a grade. Even if we don't need help on anything, they still force us to do them, like at that point, we're just faking the TRF and just doing it for the grade. Some people can just get help on YouTube, from, a friend, or just ask their question to a teacher, not fill out a paper and spend 15-30 minutes presenting it up on the board. TRF's are anything but helpful, they're just there to fill up time and make the period seem "full". I don't get why they should be a grade either, like why should your help be graded on, it makes no sense. It's so complicated and there's no meaning or practical benefit to this practice.
In conclusion, Avid is a complete joke and a waste of time. What angers me most is the fact that they could've used this period for a free study period or a break period or another slot for an elective. If they made it a study period, we could've been focusing or catching up on work for all of our classes, not just focusing on this wasted Avid class. But regardless of what I just said, this doesn't mean Avid is useless to everyone, my point is Avid shouldn't be made mandatory. Please sign this petition and spread awareness of this current tragedy that has befallen us students.
