Sexual assault prevention course

The Issue

Considering the sexual assault stories presented on the media and news it's definitely time for a change it may be painful but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong. California regularly has the highest sex trafficking rates in the United States. Also more than 86% of women in California and 53% of men report they experienced some form of sexual harassment or assault. I request that U.S. high schools offer students a class or elective on sexual assault prevention. This course will educate students on topics like proper protocol to report sexual violence, sexual consent and medical resources like counseling or rape kits. No human or student should live in fear of being assaulted. Most of my personal time is focused on school and never once I learned how I can prevent or protect myself from sexual assault. Do high schools not teach a sexual assault prevention course because they don't know how to address sexual assault or schools are comfortable with sexual assault being a world-wide issue?
