The United States Border Patrol (a federal agency within the United States government) is currently a public sponsor of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR). Although it should not be legal for a governmental entity to use taxpayer dollars to sponsor a private organization or company, they are able to justify this action as "recruitment efforts." The agreement with the PBR provides the Border Patrol with a variety of recruiting tools, including its logo being splashed across riders and arenas, and a series of TV ads running in local markets.

According to an article in USA Today, "in 2018, a report issued by the Office of Inspector General concluded that the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) was at risk of wasting millions of taxpayer dollars on a contract with a third-party vendor expected to hire agents." Also within that article, Jenn Budd (a former Border Patrol agent who is now a critic of the agency) said this: "It's propaganda. Law enforcement should just say it has openings. All this other stuff is an attempt to get at kids at young ages. Plus, the vast majority of agents do not ride horses. They sit in a filthy truck for 12 hours staring at a fence or sit in processing."

The sponsorship contract has been terminated and reissued multiple times. It was initiated again under President Trump, and the sponsorship is still active today: to the tune of $2 million. This is a waste of taxpayer dollars and should be ended immediately.
