Urging Florida Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody to vote no on the SAVE H.R. 22 Act.

Urging Florida Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody to vote no on the SAVE H.R. 22 Act.
The Issue
The introduction of SAVE H.R. 22, commonly referred to as the Voter ID Act, threatens to undermine the democratic principles of the United States. President Donald Trump has also urged the Senate to pass this during the State of the Union Address. This bill seeks to impose stringent voter identification requirements that could potentially disenfranchise a significant portion of the electorate, particularly marginalized communities who may not have easy access to the required identification documents. In Florida alone, thousands of eligible voters could be turned away at the polls, simply because they lack the necessary identification.
Historically, similar voter ID laws have been shown to disproportionately affect minority communities, the elderly, and low-income individuals. According to a study by the Government Accountability Office, states that implemented strict voter ID laws saw a significant decrease in voter turnout among these groups. This is not a partisan issue, it is an issue on fundamental rights. Every American citizen deserves to have their voice heard, free from unnecessary and burdensome barriers.
Furthermore, there is little evidence to support the claim that voter fraud is widespread enough to warrant such restrictive measures. Multiple studies and investigations have found voter fraud to be exceedingly rare in the United States. Instead of strengthening our democracy, the SAVE H.R. 22 bill would likely lead to widespread voter suppression and weaken the integrity of our electoral process.
Florida Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody must consider the detrimental impact this bill could have on their constituents and the democratic process at large. By voting no on the SAVE H.R. 22, they have an opportunity to stand up for fair elections and the rights of all voters in Florida, and the whole country.
Please sign this petition to ensure that your voice, and the voices of many others in our community, are not silenced by this unnecessary legislation. Together, we can protect our democratic rights and promote an inclusive electoral process for all.
