Dec 1, 2024
🚨 URGENT UPDATE 🚨The first part of the approval process is happening THIS THURSDAY, 12/5 at 7pm.
LPA, Commissioners ChamberAdministrative Center
2401 SE Monterey Road
Stuart, FL 34996
It will go before the Local Planning Agency and if it is approved, the next stop is the Board of Commissioners meeting on 12/10 at 9am!
Please come to the LPA meeting to show your support! The more of us there, the more they will know how serious we are! Bring your children and let them see the faces of those they are putting at risk (there are many adverse health effects of living near a gas station). Please wear black as a show of solidarity.
If you can’t attend, please email our Martin Co. District Commissioner, Sarah Heard at: sheard@martin.fl.us
This email can simply state that you are opposed due to our group’s concerns. Several of us have been communicating our detailed list of concerns with her.
Thank you!

I live in Stuart, Florida, a peaceful community where residents value the tranquillity of our surroundings. However, there is a looming issue that threatens to disrupt our peace—the proposed establishment of a Wawa gas station in our vicinity. This strikes me personally, as the traffic light at Locks Road and Kanner Highway is already problematic. The addition of a bustling gas station would only exacerbate traffic woes. Movement into and out of our community would be significantly impacted, decreasing the quality of life and convenience we currently enjoy.
There's also the undeniable concern that the gas station could become a beacon for the homeless population, thus potentially increasing security issues in our area. The presence of large trucks to and from the station can also create safety hazards, and increase noise pollution in our quiet locale. According to statistics from the Highway Loss Data Institute, areas with gas stations have shown a marked increase in vehicular incidents due to increased traffic and congestion (2019).
This petition is our unified voice calling on city officials to reconsider the proposed establishment of this Wawa gas station and the potential negative impacts associated with it. We value the tranquillity of our community and wish to see it preserved. Let our voices be heard; sign this petition.
