The Issue

Updated: I am updating this petition because the visit is closer, the urgency is intensifying, & opposition must visible before it's too late.

A state visit is a public honour, not neutral diplomacy. This one should not go ahead.

King Charles & Queen Camilla are due to travel to the United States from 27 to 30 April. In the current circumstances, that visit does not represent me or the values Britain should uphold.

A state visit is not a quiet diplomatic exchange. It is ceremony, prestige & public honour. To proceed with that honour now, at a moment of war, deep instability, & with unresolved questions around justice & accountability, is wrong.

This is especially disturbing as serious questions remain unresolved around Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew - former prince, & access to the unredacted Epstein material. UK authorities have already pursued formal routes for that material, our Chief of Met Police - Sir Mark Rowley, personally travelled & pressed for access in the United States too. We still do not know what, if anything, was secured.

That matters not only for Britain, but for every country also trying to investigate. Justice cannot happen if authorities are denied the information they need.

At the same time, there are no plans for the King to meet survivors during this visit, despite the public calls for him to do so. If the explanation is the sensitivity of ongoing investigations, then the exact same seriousness & restraint must apply to all. Public institutions cannot invoke investigative sensitivity in one direction, whilst disregarding the moral implications of ceremony & prestige in another.

If the Royal Family say their thoughts are with survivors, their actions must reflect that. Sympathy without action is merely tokenism. It's not enough.

Allegations linked to Andrew were said to involve some conduct in London. Where alleged abuse is said to have taken place on UK soil, so Britain has a duty to show seriousness, solidarity & moral consistency. Until there is far greater clarity, visits of this magnitude should not be allowed to proceed as though they are untouched by those questions

During the visit the King will address Congress, while his own brother Andrew,  constantly refuses to answer to it. That's not a ceremonial detail, it's deeply hypocritical & equally immoral.

This visit is also going ahead in the shadow of an illegal war. To continue with royal ceremony & prestige while innocent lives are lost, while legal & moral lines are under grave strain, & while the world is being destabilised further, makes the visit even more reprehensible.

As this is a state visit, & particularly to the USA, there will be worldwide visibility & formal honours, the gesture will be seen everywhere. What does it say about Great Britain as a nation if we proceed with symbolic prestige & ceremony, when survivors are still not being centred & any accountability for them remains protected & unresolved.

Many may not realise this visit has been confirmed, because so many other grave global events are rightly dominating public attention. But if people don't know it's going ahead, what it symbolises, what it undermines. Then any public opposition to it might never be seen.

This visit has to be postponed.

Justice comes before ceremony. Survivors come before prestige. Decency comes before pageantry.

The petition is open to anyone who opposes this decision - in the UK, USA, or anywhere else. If this visit does not represent you either, & you are able, please sign it now, comment & share it widely, help make our collective opposition to it impossible to ignore.

Together, we must stand against silence, corruption & complicity, & fight for a future shaped by decency, humanity, democracy & hope.

Thank you.
