Subject: Urgent Request to Expedite CR1/IR1 Spouse Visa Processing
Dear Consular Officer,
I am writing to bring to your attention the urgent need to expedite the processing of CR1/IR1 spouse visas at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad. The current wait times have exceeded so much that it takes upto 20 months after being documentarily qualified (DQ), causing immense distress and hardship for countless families who are separated from their loved ones. This has also led to transfer cases to other embassies which have lesser backlogs which only few people can afford.
The prolonged separation is taking a severe toll on individuals and families. Many are experiencing significant emotional and mental stress due to the extended periods apart from their spouses. Some individuals are aging, missing out on opportunities to acquire jobs or further their education, while others are raising children alone without the support of their partners. The strain of long-distance relationships has even led to divorces, and in some heartbreaking cases, individuals have passed away without the chance to reunite with their spouses.
We understand the challenges posed by the backlog created by the COVID-19 pandemic and the influx of Afghan refugees. However, the situation has become increasingly dire for those waiting for their CR1/IR1 visas. This prolonged separation is akin to a form of torture, and the emotional and psychological toll it takes on individuals and families cannot be overstated.
On behalf of all those suffering from this prolonged separation, we urgently request that the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad take immediate action to expedite the processing of CR1/IR1 spouse visas. We implore you to prioritize these cases to alleviate the heartbreak and suffering of those affected.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We hope for a swift resolution that will allow families to reunite and rebuild their lives together.
Sincerely
Impacted spouses (aka visa petitioners)
