Urgent Request for the Disqualification and Suspension of the IRFF

Urgent Request for the Disqualification and Suspension of the IRFF

To: FIFA Disciplinary Committee & FIFA Executive Football Tribunal
We, the undersigned football fans, human rights advocates, and members of the global community, formally request the immediate suspension and disqualification of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRFF) and its national team from all FIFA-sanctioned competitions.
This urgent appeal is triggered by a deeply disturbing, violent, and politically motivated gesture made by Iranian national team player, Mohammad Mohebi, during an official match. Following a goal, Mohebi deliberately targeted Iranian dissidents and expat spectators in the stadium by making a clear "gunshot/firing" gesture toward them.
This act is not merely an isolated unsporting behavior; it is a direct, state-sponsored symbolic threat of physical elimination and execution against political dissidents, mimicking the real-world violent suppression carried out by the Iranian regime against its citizens. This includes the horrific mass killings perpetrated just five months ago over a span of two nights, and the ongoing state executions of minors aged 13 to 17. The vast majority of the Iranian population and the diaspora do not recognize this team as their national team; the people view it strictly as a propaganda tool of a totalitarian regime whose hands are stained with the blood of our nation.
We urge FIFA to take immediate action based on the following violations of the FIFA Statutes and FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC):
1. Violation of Article 4 (Non-discrimination, humanitarian stance, and neutrality): FIFA strictly prohibits any discrimination or political demonstrations. Mohebi’s gesture directly targets a specific group of people based on their political opinions and exile status, violating the humanitarian core of football.
2. Violation of Article 16 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (Order and security at matches): Provoking the crowd through violent symbols directly threatens stadium security, incites hatred, and disrupts the safety of spectators.
3. Violation of Article 11 (Offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play): Using the pitch to display symbols of state violence and execution is a severe breach of fair play and brings the game of football into disrepute globally.
Football must remain a safe haven free from totalitarian propaganda and death threats. By allowing a team that openly threatens spectators with state-sanctioned violence to compete, FIFA compromises its own integrity. We demand the immediate disqualification of the IRFF.
