Urgent Request for Postponement of Semester Exams in light with Smart India Hackathon 2025

Urgent Request for Postponement of Semester Exams in light with Smart India Hackathon 2025
The Issue
We, the students of MAKAUT (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal), would like to bring to your kind attention an urgent concern regarding the recently announced end-semester examination schedule for the 3rd (except B.Tech and B.Pharm),5th and 7th semesters, commencing from 26th November 2025.
The declared dates unfortunately overlap closely with the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) window, which falls between late November and early December. While the SIH window itself has been left out, the narrow gap before and after does not provide sufficient time for participants to travel, prepare, and attend the examinations effectively. This poses significant logistical difficulties for students representing our university at the national level.
Moreover, the announcement of the end-semester schedule with less than three weeks’ notice has caused considerable stress among students. Many of us are actively participating in the Smart India Hackathon, which is an AICTE-supported initiative aimed at fostering innovation and practical application of technical education—values that align directly with the goals of our curriculum and institution.
However, the current timeline forces students to choose between academic responsibility and representing MAKAUT and West Bengal at a national innovation platform. This not only affects our preparation for exams but also undermines the purpose of initiatives like SIH.
In light of this, we sincerely request your kind intervention to:
1. Reschedule the end-semester examinations to begin after the SIH finals, preferably from the second exam slot (around 13th–17th December 2025).
2. Allow students a sufficient preparation and travel buffer both before and after the SIH.
We deeply appreciate AICTE’s and MAKAUT’s continued efforts to promote excellence in technical education and innovation. We believe that this small but essential adjustment will enable students to uphold both their academic performance and innovation commitments, without compromising on either.
We sincerely hope for your understanding and urgent consideration of this request.
