Urgent Request for Action on Sexual Harassment of Hotel Manager by Asad Malik

Urgent Request for Action on Sexual Harassment of Hotel Manager by Asad Malik
The Issue
I want to speak directly to the Pakistani American community about an issue that deserves serious attention.
Stephanie Starling, a former hotel manager, has sued Asad Malik, the married CEO of Amerilodge Group, in federal court. She accuses him of sexual harassment, assault, battery, and retaliation after a company outing to a Justin Timberlake concert on February 20, 2025, in Detroit. The allegations include unwanted touching, attempted kisses, and isolation in a vehicle. Malik and the company deny everything, calling the claims baseless with no witnesses.
Here are the main alleged details, pulled from court filings as reported in news articles:
Malik allegedly told Starling he wanted to kiss her, saying things like "I was going to kiss you," "It’ll probably be a good kiss later on tonight," "I bet it would be a good kiss too," and that he was "just looking at your lips" while thinking about kissing her.
Sources:
Malik allegedly slid into the seat next to her, put his hand under her right thigh, slid it up, and squeezed or touched her buttocks. Starling says she was visibly trembling and shaking in fear after this.

Malik allegedly tried to sit next to her during the concert and got visibly angry when her coworker blocked it. He also bought her drinks and pointed to seats to be alone with her.

Malik allegedly asked her to get in his car to "talk," drove to a dark area near the hotel, and said "Time for that kiss" or "I’m going in for that kiss." When she said no, he got agitated, asked "What do you mean you CAN’T?", leaned in, and wrapped his arms around her for a forced hug or kiss attempt. She threatened to walk through the snow to escape.

Starling says she hid in the bathroom in tears, called her father crying, and texted about being "molested" by the CEO. She avoided him for the rest of the show and had her boyfriend pick her up later.

After telling HR, Starling claims the company did a biased investigation that cleared Malik, spread gossip about her, cut her email access, forced a fake "resignation" (she never quit), and offered "hush money" to drop claims—which she refused. She was then fired. The suit also says other women faced similar issues but were silenced.
Malik denies any touching, kissing attempts, or wrongdoing. The company says no one saw anything, the investigation found nothing, and Starling resigned (possibly linked to a drinking issue). They call the lawsuit baseless and plan to fight it in court.
Supporting someone’s right to pursue justice does not mean declaring guilt. It means refusing to look away because the accused is influential, well-connected, or “one of our own.” It means rejecting the idea that money, status, or leadership titles should intimidate or silence those who speak up.
If we truly value integrity, dignity, and accountability as a community, then transparency and independent scrutiny should not make us uncomfortable. What should make us uncomfortable is silence, defensiveness, or attempts to dismiss or minimize allegations simply because the person accused holds power.
This is not about trial by social media. It is about standing for fairness, ensuring that no one is isolated or intimidated into backing down, and making it clear that influence should never shield anyone from being questioned.
