Urgent: Reduce Speed Limit on Maulden Road for Ruxox Nursery Safety
The Issue
I have two children, aged 3 and 1, at Ruxox Nursery School, Maulden Road, Flitwick, Bedfordshire MK45 5BN. Maulden Road is currently national speed limit, and I strongly believe this needs to change. The speed of travel of vehicles passing the nursery entrance endangers parents and nursery workers (and the children in their cars) as they pull in and out of the car park on a daily basis. Despite there being a nursery sign roadside, there's nothing else demanding people slow down along the straight stretch of road between the roundabout until reaching Flitwick.
Earlier this week there was a crash outside Ruxox because of a young man’s reckless driving along Maulden Road, colliding with the manager of the nursery (Ms Lynne for those of you with children at the nursery) as she pulled into the carpark. The little Yaris is currently parked in Ruxox carpark so that parents can visibly see the (horrific) extent of the damage. The drivers were both incredibly lucky to get away from the collision relatively unscathed. HGVs and farm machinery regularly use the road - it could have been a very different story.
Every child attending Ruxox is under 5 years old. And every child attending Ruxox is dropped off in a car in the absence of a safe way to get to the setting by other means. This petition is to campaign our local Councillors to make it safer for us to take our children to nursery by drastically reducing the speed limit and/or putting speed bumps / flashing lights / signage / a speed camera in place outside of Ruxox on that dangerous stretch of road.
I hope other parents that have witnessed and have experienced the fear of pulling in and out of Ruxox with young children in their cars will sign this petition to urge Councillors to reduce the speed limit along Maulden Road. I have written to Central Bedfordshire Councillors, Ampthill Council and Blake Stephenson MP, and hope that a petition could help action change.
Thank you.
