Dear Members of the Greenbelt City Council,

We are writing to express our serious concern regarding recent reports that the U.S. Park Police and Immigration Customs Enforcement are conducting traffic stops along the Baltimore–Washington Parkway, which falls under their jurisdiction, and detaining Latino drivers at Greenbelt National Park Station.

These actions raise significant issues about racial profiling and the fair treatment of all individuals, regardless of their ethnicity. It is imperative that all law enforcement agencies operate with transparency and accountability to ensure the trust and safety of the communities they serve.

We urge the Greenbelt City Council to take the following actions:

  • Investigate these reports thoroughly and take appropriate measures to address any instances of misconduct.
  • Issue a public statement addressing these concerns and outlining the steps that will be taken to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.
  • Alert all residents about these issues to ensure that everyone is informed and aware of the situation.
  • Offer city-wide training to educate all residents about their rights.
Enforce Greenbelt City's ordinance as a sanctuary city and ensure that no joint operations are conducted with ICE.
  • Communicate clearly to all businesses and citizens that residents do not need to open their doors for ICE and have the right to remain silent.

It is crucial that we uphold the principles of justice and equality in our community.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and action.

Sincerely,

Greenbelt Resistance Network
