Urgent: Proposal for Dock Improvements at Blockhouse and Galts Ferry Ramps
The Issue
Dear US Army Corp of Engineers, Lake Allatoona Office, and US Representative Barry Loudermilk,
As active members of the local fishing and boating community on Lake Allatoona, we urgently recommend improvements to the docks at the Blockhouse and Galts Ferry ramps. The current situation during maximum winter lake drawdown poses significant safety and damage concerns.
At present, both docks are entirely out of the water during maximum winter drawdown, making boat launching unsafe and harmful to vessels. Boaters are forced to beach their boats on rocky shorelines, causing damage to the hull. Moreover, without a safe means to secure the boat to a dock, there's a risk of boats floating away while the tow vehicle is being parked.
We propose a simple solution to this problem-extending the walkways at these two docks to a length that allows them to remain floating during maximum winter drawdown. This would ensure safe dock access in water with sufficient depth, mitigating the risks associated with launching boats.
Considering the paramount importance of safety to the US Army Corp of Engineers, we believe these dock improvements would enhance safety for all lake users, minimize boat damage during launching, and increase lake usage during winter drawdown.
We kindly request urgent consideration of this recommendation and appreciate your commitment to keeping our lakes safe and accessible for everyone.
Sincerely,
Lake City Anglers
