URGENT Petition for the Protection and Humane Treatment of Pigeons in Toronto
URGENT Petition for the Protection and Humane Treatment of Pigeons in Toronto
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents, animal advocates, and concerned members of the public, urgently call on the City of Toronto and all relevant authorities to protect pigeons from cruel, inhumane, and unnecessary harm.
Pigeons are living, feeling beings who experience pain, fear, and suffering. They are part of Toronto’s urban ecosystem and deserve compassion, dignity, and humane treatment — not violence or extermination.
We are deeply concerned about the use of harmful and lethal pigeon control practices that cause immense suffering to innocent animals. Many commonly used methods inflict pain, injury, stress, prolonged suffering, and death. Such treatment is unacceptable in a modern and compassionate society.
Every animal has the fundamental right to humane treatment. Causing suffering to wildlife for convenience or aesthetics is ethically wrong and does not reflect the values of a humane city.
Toronto must move toward ethical, humane, and non-lethal solutions that respect animal life and coexistence with urban wildlife.
We urgently call on the City of Toronto and relevant authorities to:
- Immediately prohibit cruel, harmful, and unnecessary lethal control methods against pigeons
- Recognize pigeons as sentient animals deserving legal and ethical protection
- Expand humane, non-lethal population management strategies, including birth control programs
- Promote compassionate public education focused on coexistence with urban wildlife
- Strengthen oversight and accountability regarding wildlife and pest control practices to prevent animal cruelty
A truly compassionate city does not solve problems through suffering and killing. Toronto should lead by example by protecting urban wildlife and adopting humane, ethical, and science-based approaches.
We demand immediate action to ensure pigeons and all urban wildlife are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect.
Signed,
Concerned Residents and Animal Advocates of Toronto
