Urgent NEED for META INDIA to change guidelines to protect queer individuals
The Issue
Homophobia and queer phobia has won way too many times and claimed lives of individuals more than deserving to live their truth.
Today India has lost a 16 year old creator who expressed themselves freely on an app that claims to be safe and against any bullying and harassment. While on the contrary, being queer and a minority myself in India we get hate comments, death threats, constant bullying, sexual assaults, rape threats on the DAILY. All reports to flag these comments are NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY. They come back saying “it’s not against the community guidelines”
WHILE WE ARE BEING CENSORED, BANNED, and made to be afraid or normalised to BLATANT HATE AND DISCRIMINATION.
The lack of seriousness to this is of extreme concern. We are in 2023 and children, adults ANYONE should be allowed to express themselves on an app.
Hate and bullying cannot be normalised more on this app, it is taking too many lives absolutely worthy of living. I urge you to sign this petition to make them take this issue seriously and protect queer individuals and other individuals against bullying, threats and harassment.
