Urgent! May 6: The Most Important Harvest Grove Hearing Yet

The Issue

Thank you again for signing the petition to oppose the Harvest Grove mega‑development. Your support made a real impact leading up to the April 7 Town Council vote. Even though the Council approved the rezoning 4–3, the project is not fully approved — and a critical new hearing is now approaching.

The Town of Gilbert has scheduled a Planning Commission hearing for Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00 PM to review the regional commercial phase of Harvest Grove at Val Vista & Germann. This is the phase that includes:

  • A 99,000 sq ft Fry’s grocery store
  • A fuel station
  • Three fast‑food drive‑thrus
  • A bank
  • Multiple commercial pads
  • Additional components that will be reviewed separately

This commercial phase will bring thousands of new daily car trips, late‑night lighting and noise, fuel fumes, and major congestion to an already overburdened corridor. It will also put pressure on existing local businesses and lower quality of life for nearby neighborhoods.

These concerns come on top of the original impacts that led so many residents to sign this petition:

  • 27,000+ new daily car trips added to Val Vista, Germann, and Queen Creek
  • Traffic pushed toward Perry High School, creating safety risks for students
  • Congestion on Rome Street, Coronado Road, and surrounding neighborhoods
  • High‑density housing placed in the San Tan Character Area, where it doesn’t belong
  • Light and noise conflicts with the adjacent soccer fields
  • Loss of remaining farmland and open space
  • A project that was already denied once because these issues were never resolved

Now, the commercial core — the most traffic‑intensive part of the entire project — is moving forward for approval.

📅 Wednesday, May 6 @ 6:00 PM - Gilbert Municipal Center – Council Chambers 50 E Civic Center Drive, Gilbert, AZ 85296. A strong turnout shows the Commission that residents are paying attention and care about the long‑term impacts on their neighborhoods.
