Urgent Installation of Traffic Light in Morganza, MD!

Urgent Installation of Traffic Light in Morganza, MD!
The Issue
As a concerned citizen of St. Mary's County, I am writing this petition to urgently request the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Route 5, Morganza Turner Road, and Colton Point Road. The safety and well-being of our students and community members are at stake, and immediate action is necessary to prevent further potential accidents and protect lives.
Allow me to share a personal story that highlights the gravity of this issue. Just a few days ago a student athlete was severely injured at that intersection as another vehicle tried to cross over the intersection without fully stopping. Both drivers were severely injured and life flighted to a trauma center.
This incident left our community shaken and deeply concerned about the lack of proper traffic control measures in place.
The absence of a traffic light poses significant risks for both pedestrians/bikers in our amish community and motorists alike. With an increasing number of vehicles passing through our town each day, it has become increasingly challenging to navigate this area. Moreover, motorists often struggle with determining right-of-way due to inadequate signage or signals.
Installing a traffic light will undoubtedly address these concerns and greatly enhance the safety of our community. It will provide clear guidelines for motorists, reduce the risk of accidents, and ensure a safer environment for pedestrians/bikers especially our students who deserve to travel to school without fear.
We, the concerned citizens of St. Mary's County urge local authorities and relevant stakeholders to take immediate action by installing a traffic light at the intersection of Route 5, Morganza Turner Road and Colton Point Road. Together, let's prioritize safety and protect lives in our beloved community.
