URGENT - HELP STOP THE CELLULAR TOWER FROM BEING BUILT IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

The Issue

Purpose:

URGENT - HELP STOP THE CELLULAR TOWER IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Please help us preserve our land and ecosystem. Help us keep our families, businesses, and resident wildlife safe and healthy. Say 'No.' to the instalment of a cell tower on the property of Canvasback Farms ( 4630 160 St, Surrey, BC V3S 0L2).

How do we measure the importance of this?

  • Our sensitive ecosystem will be disturbed by the developers. If this project moves forward there will be a ripple effect; more vehicles on the road, increased people presence, unpredictable work hours to meet and adhere to developers time line, noise and light increase, alterations to land, ongoing site visits for updates and services.
  • 'Special Concern' and 'Threatened' species, such as the Blue Herron will be forced out of their chosen forging and nesting area.
  • We do not have the data to show us long term effects of infrastructures such as cell towers on communities. We must push this matter forward and challenge our City to adhere to the public health approach of “prevention over cure” (Basrur, p.14).
  • We cannot accept the lack of scientific evidence concluding harm of exposure to RF at a  low frequency as a sufficient answer. We must challenge that the lack of evidence does not equate to safety. We need more time and research to be conducted.

Our goal is attainable

Please use your voice and help stop the development of a cell tower at Canvasback Farms.

We all appreciate the beauty of our neighbourhoods, we all want to keep our families, loved ones, and communities safe and healthy. We want to protect and preserve our lifetimes investments (our properties). There are threads that connect us, this is not an isolated situation. We must look at the simple facts: there is a substantial amount to be lost if this project moves forward. The loss far outweighs the gain.

This development will be considered at the Surrey City Council Meeting on Monday April 20th 2020. If you feel like taking another step into action, please write a letter to:

* We have consulted many academic and published resources. The Government of Canada's resources, as well as the City of Surrey's resources. We have reached out to the Canadian Wildlife Services and spoken specifically to a Landbird Biologist. The Canadian Wildlife Service provided valuable information and directed us to the Migratory Birds Convention Act (1994).
