Here's another example from Keepin' It Real for why we started this petition.
-On May 1st, 2023, a 52 year-old was arrested for felony auto theft, felony assault with intent to cause great bodily injury, and possession of stolen property. In a plea deal so typical of the County’s District Attorney, he pleaded “No Contest” to misdemeanor possession of stolen property and misdemeanor assault w/ intent to cause GBI. He was sentenced to 3 days in jail time served, and one year of unsupervised probation. In other words- he walked. The honorable Denine Guy presided over this case. (23CR01917)
On January 7th, 2024, he was arrested by SO Patrol Deputies for strong arm robbery. He stole from a business and used force/ the threat of force to complete the crime.
While being run out for wants and warrants, Deputies learned that he had two prior convictions for theft., so they added the Prop 36 felony charge for shoplifting. (SO Case# 2500195/ Booking# B-614355)
Today, a reader was in court on an unrelated matter. Here’s her report:
“{This Person} just appeared in dept 3 (Judge Denine Guy presiding), pled no contest AGAIN and got off with no prison time. He’s a scary looking dude. Which is why I took notice of his case.“
I can confirm the reader's story. …
This was a robbery case with 9 separate sentencing enhancements attached (due to the violence and violent history of the accused), and in a plea deal was convicted of a Prop 36 third petty theft conviction. He was sentenced to probation (to run concurrent with his other imposed probation)- no jail time. (24CR00065)
