The Issue

This is to formally raise a serious concern regarding the excessive academic pressure being placed on students of dps ruby park, middle school particularly due to the enormous syllabus being pushed through within an extremely short period of time.
What is happening is no longer simply a matter of a “challenging syllabus” or “academic rigour.” There appears to be a fundamental imbalance between the volume of content being prescribed, the time available to teach it, and the ability of children to actually understand, absorb and retain what they are being taught.
The most concerning aspect is that chapters are often being touched upon and completed merely for the sake of covering the syllabus, rather than being taught with adequate explanation, conceptual clarity, discussion and reinforcement. There is little or no meaningful time left for revision, practice, doubt-clearing or ensuring that the child has genuinely understood the subject before moving on to the next chapter.
The responsibility for completing the learning process is increasingly being shifted to parents and children at home through an overwhelming number of worksheets, assignments and additional practice material. Parents are effectively being expected to reteach, reinforce and revise large portions of the curriculum outside school hours.
This raises a very important question:
If the school itself does not have sufficient classroom time to teach the prescribed syllabus properly, how is it reasonable to expect a child to independently master it at home, alongside several other subjects, assignments, worksheets and regular schoolwork?
These are young children from classes 7_9. They are still developing academically, emotionally and psychologically. They cannot be expected to function like machines that can continuously absorb new information, complete endless written work and immediately produce examination-level performance without adequate time for understanding and revision.
The pressure being created is becoming increasingly visible among students. Instead of developing curiosity and a genuine interest in learning, children are beginning to associate academics with constant anxiety, deadlines, incomplete work and fear of examinations. This is deeply concerning.
Education should not be reduced to “finish the chapter, tick the syllabus and move on.” Completing a syllabus on paper is very different from actually teaching it.
A child may technically have “completed” ten chapters, but if the child has not understood the concepts, had the opportunity to ask questions, practise them and revise them, then what exactly has been achieved?
Moreover, the school must consider the cumulative pressure created when every subject follows the same approach simultaneously. Each individual worksheet or assignment may appear manageable in isolation, but when multiple subjects are sending continuous work, the combined burden becomes excessive.
As parents, we absolutely understand the importance of discipline, academic standards and hard work. We are not asking for the standards of education to be lowered. We are asking for education to be made meaningful, sustainable and age-appropriate.
I therefore request the management to seriously review:
The volume of syllabus being expected to be completed within the available academic time.
Whether sufficient classroom time is actually being provided for conceptual teaching and doubt clarification.
The absence of adequate revision and reinforcement before examinations.
The excessive number of worksheets and assignments being sent home.
The cumulative academic workload across all subjects rather than assessing each subject independently.
The impact that this level of pressure is having on the mental and emotional well-being of students.
Whether the current academic schedule is genuinely helping children learn or simply enabling the school to claim that the syllabus has been “covered.”
I would also request the management to interact directly with students and parents before dismissing these concerns as individual complaints. The experiences of the children themselves would provide a very clear picture of the pressure they are currently experiencing.
We send our children to school with the expectation that they will be educated, guided and nurtured—not placed under an unsustainable academic burden where the objective becomes merely completing portions and preparing for examinations.
Academic excellence cannot be achieved through academic exhaustion.
If the school genuinely wants its students to perform well, then sufficient time must be given to teach them well, allow them to understand, practise, revise and finally demonstrate what they have learned.
I sincerely hope the management will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and initiate a meaningful review of the current academic workload and teaching schedule. I would appreciate a formal response outlining what steps the school intends to take to address these concerns.
This is not merely a complaint about homework or examinations. It is a concern about the kind of learning environment we are creating for our children.
I hope the school will choose to listen before the pressure takes a more serious toll on the students.
