Urgent Call for Dolphin Conservation in Northeast India

Urgent Call for Dolphin Conservation in Northeast India
The Issue
Our Rivers Are Dying. The Dolphins Are Dying. We Cannot Stand By
Imagine standing by the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra or the serene Siang River, where the water once teemed with life—where river dolphins, the gentle guardians of these waters, danced and played, their presence a sign of the river’s health and vitality.
Now, close your eyes and imagine a silent river. No splash of fins. No graceful leaps. Nothing but polluted waters and empty shores. Our rivers, once the lifeblood of our land and culture, are slowly turning into graveyards for these magnificent creatures.
The dolphin, are being driven to the brink of extinction by the very rivers that should be its sanctuary. Rampant pollution, relentless sand mining, habitat destruction—all of it is killing them. Each day we wait, we lose more. Each year that passes without action, we edge closer to a future where the river dolphins, these symbols of purity and harmony, are no more than a memory.
But this is not just about dolphins. It’s about us. It’s about our future and the future of our rivers. If the dolphins die, our rivers die. And if the rivers die, we all suffer—the farmers, the fishermen, the wildlife, the children who deserve a world filled with life, not loss.
We, the people who live by these rivers, feel this loss deeply. Our ancestors lived alongside these waters, and we want our children to experience that same connection to nature, to witness the joy of seeing dolphins in the wild, to breathe air filled with hope, not despair.
But time is running out.
This petition is not just a cry for help—it is a demand for action. We are asking for three critical changes:
- Extend the protection zones of wildlife sanctuaries to cover crucial dolphin breeding areas. These waters are their homes, and they must be protected.
- Conduct a full-scale population mapping of the dolphin population to understand their current numbers and movements—so we know exactly what we’re fighting to save.
We cannot do this alone. We need the government’s leadership. We need people like you to stand with us. Let’s not wait until the last dolphin disappears from our rivers. Let’s act today, for the rivers, for the dolphins, for all of us.
Sign this petition. Together, we can give the dolphins a fighting chance. Together, we can save our rivers before it’s too late.
