Urgent Petition: Protect Civilians in Azad Kashmir, Restore Communications, and Allow Humanitarian Aid
My name is Abdan, and I am writing this petition with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for humanity.
My own relatives live in Rawalakot Azad Kashmir. For weeks, I have been unable to contact them because of prolonged communication and internet disruptions. Every day, I wake up not knowing whether my family is safe, injured, or even alive. The fear, uncertainty, and helplessness that thousands of families are experiencing cannot be put into words.
This is more than my family’s story. It is the story of countless people in Azad Kashmir who have been caught in a humanitarian crisis. Reports from residents, activists, and human rights organizations describe civilians living in fear, allegations of excessive force against protesters, arbitrary arrests, communication blackouts, restrictions on journalists, and limited access for humanitarian organizations. Regardless of political differences, no civilian should be deprived of safety, food, medical care, or the ability to communicate with loved ones.
The people of Azad Kashmir deserve the same fundamental human rights as everyone else: the right to life, freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, access to information, and protection from violence.
Communication blackouts have left families separated and unable to confirm whether loved ones are safe. These restrictions also make it more difficult for humanitarian organizations, journalists, and independent observers to assess conditions on the ground. When communication is cut off, fear grows, misinformation spreads, and those in need become even more isolated.
Many families are also facing shortages of essential supplies, including food, medicine, and emergency medical care. Vulnerable groups—including children, older adults, and people with disabilities—are especially at risk when humanitarian access is restricted.
The international community cannot afford to look away.
We call upon the United Nations, international human rights organizations, humanitarian agencies, governments, and global media outlets to urgently examine the situation in Azad Kashmir and take meaningful action to protect civilians and ensure accountability for any human rights violations.
We Urgently Call For:
The immediate protection of all civilians and an end to violence against unarmed people.
An independent, impartial international investigation into allegations of human rights abuses.
The immediate restoration of internet and communication services so families can reconnect and emergency information can flow freely.
Safe and unrestricted access for humanitarian organizations to deliver food, clean water, medicine, and medical assistance.
Access for independent journalists and international human rights observers to document conditions on the ground.
Respect for the rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, and due process under international human rights standards.
Constructive dialogue that addresses the concerns of the people of Azad Kashmir through peaceful means rather than violence.
This petition is not about politics—it is about human lives.
No mother should have to wonder whether her child is alive. No child should grow up surrounded by violence. No family should spend weeks or months unable to speak to the people they love.
As someone whose own family remains in Azad Kashmir, this crisis is deeply personal. Every day without communication brings unbearable anxiety. Every report of violence makes us fear the worst. Thousands of families around the world are living with the same uncertainty.
We cannot remain silent while civilians suffer.
If you believe that every human being deserves safety, dignity, access to humanitarian aid, and the protection of their basic rights, I ask you to stand with the people of Azad Kashmir.
Please sign this petition and share it with others. Your voice can help bring international attention to this humanitarian crisis, encourage independent monitoring, support humanitarian assistance, and remind the world that the lives of innocent civilians matter.
Together, we can call for compassion, accountability, and urgent action before more lives are lost.
