We regret to inform supporters that Maryam was refused entry to the United Kingdom for medical treatment by the Department of Health and Social Care.
Despite this decision, Maryam has shown encouraging progress in recent months.
Maryam and her family have, however, recently faced a significant setback. The cost of the apartment they were renting was increased beyond their means, forcing them to leave and return to living in a tent.
Despite these circumstances, Maryam continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience. Recently, she has shown an improvement in her mental health and has been playing happily amongst other children. She is smiling, engaging with those around her, and remains full of joy — a testament to her strength.
Maryam’s birthday was last month, and her family were able to organise a small celebration for her, including a cake. This was a meaningful moment, offering her a sense of normality and happiness amidst ongoing hardship.
However, the broader situation remains extremely challenging.
Prices across Gaza have risen significantly due to continued restrictions and the closure — and only partial reopening — of the Rafah Crossing. Essential goods are scarce, and costs remain exceptionally high. There have also been bombings in close proximity to her tent location, which has further impacted the family’s mental wellbeing.
At present, Maryam is facing several urgent needs:
She has not had new clothing for several months
She requires access to healthy gluten-free foods, which are limited and sold at premium prices
Weather conditions have become increasingly unpredictable, with periods of warmth followed by cold rain and wind
Maryam remains physically vulnerable. She is still underweight, with low body fat, making her particularly susceptible to the cold conditions she is currently living in.
We kindly ask supporters not to be misled by the total amount shown on her fundraiser. These funds have been raised over a period exceeding nine months, and the majority are used immediately — in real time — to cover essential living costs, medical needs, and basic survival requirements.
There are no excess funds — only ongoing, urgent need.
