Urgent Action Needed to Protect and Preserve Pinecrest, FL
The Issue
Oppose Construction of Large Roundabout at SW 67th Avenue and Old Cutler Road
We, the undersigned Pinecrest residents and/or property owners, respectfully petition that the County not proceed with plans to construct a large roundabout at the intersection of SW 67th Avenue and Old Cutler Road.
We have deep concerns regarding the ill-conceived development plans that will directly impact our beloved neighborhood and negate the nurturing environment that Pinecrest has always provided to our families.
The implementation of the large roundabout, accompanied by bright lighting, and the removal of 16 specimen trees; in addition to countless other healthy Florida natives; not only disregards the core characteristics that define the Village of Pinecrest but also poses serious safety risks. It is disheartening to witness our residential streets being transformed into thoroughfares and “cut throughs” for other municipalities, putting the safety of our children and all residents at stake.
Moreover, the development plans overlook the significance of Old Cutler Road as both a state and county historic road. Old Cutler Road holds immense value in preserving our heritage, and it should not be subjected to further alterations except for essential safety measures at intersections. In fact, there are state laws and county ordinances that are meant to protect it.
Countless hours have been exhausted researching and collaborating with residents and experts to propose alternative solutions that prioritize safety, environmental sustainability, and the overall well-being of our community. However, these efforts have been met with disappointment as Miami-Dade County seems determined to one-sidedly proceed with a plan that fails to address the core issues and concerns raised by residents.
We implore the county to reconsider its development plans and listen to the voices of the residents who will be directly impacted by these changes. Let us work together through a collaborative due process to find sustainable and innovative solutions that align with our shared values of community preservation, safety, and environmental consciousness.
We kindly request you halt the current development plans and initiate a comprehensive dialogue that includes input from affected residents, experts, and community leaders. Together, we can forge a solution that upholds the integrity of our neighborhood while effectively addressing the traffic and growth challenges faced by Miami.
