We, the undersigned, call on Kirklees Council to take immediate action to improve road safety at the Carr Lane/Cross Lane junction and the neighbouring Sovereign junction in Shepley.

These junctions have become an accident blackspot, posing a serious risk to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. Local residents and road users have witnessed frequent near-misses and collisions, and urgent intervention is needed before further accidents occur.

As part of the West Yorkshire Mayor’s Vision Zero Strategy, which aims to eliminate road deaths and serious injuries, Kirklees Council must prioritise measures to improve safety at these dangerous junctions. We urge the Council to:

✅Conduct a full safety assessment of both junctions following the recent spate of accidents.

✅ Liaise with the police to improve enforcement, tackling speeding and dangerous driving.
✅ Implement effective traffic-calming measures.
✅ Improve signage, visibility, and road markings.
✅ Explore further engineering solutions to prevent future accidents.

The safety of our community should not be compromised. We demand swift action before more lives are put at risk.
