I had the privilege of going to school with Trask Smith in Wayne County, Illinois. Trask was more than just a friend; he was a beacon of joy and positivity to everyone around him. His contagious laughter and zest for life brightened even the dullest days. He was known for lighting up every room he entered and ensuring that everyone around him felt happy and included. His cheerful disposition and kind heart touched everyone he met, and he never hesitated to reach out to those he cared about.

On a fateful day, Trask's life was tragically cut short. The circumstances surrounding his death have left many, including myself, deeply unsettled. Questions linger and concerns rise about the true nature of his demise. Was it really an accident, or was foul play involved? His mother, Misty, has been living in anguish, seeking answers and yearning for justice for her beloved son.

With a new State's Attorney now in position in Wayne County, Illinois, we have a renewed opportunity to seek the truth and obtain justice for Trask. Reexamining the details and evidence of the case is crucial, not only to bring justice to Trask but to offer his family, especially his mother, the peace they desperately need.

We urge the State's Attorney to conduct a thorough and impartial review of Trask's case. It is imperative that all evidence is carefully scrutinized and that any oversight is addressed with the utmost diligence. Justice must be served and the truth must be uncovered.

Supporters of Trask, his family, and our community at large—your voice is vital in this quest for justice. Stand with us in calling upon the Wayne County authorities to take action. Let's ensure that Trask's story is heard and that justice prevails. Please sign this petition to demand a reexamination of Trask Smith's untimely death. Together, we can make a difference and honor Trask's memory with the justice he deserves.

Above I have posted the 12 different news stations that reported a body being found in a ditch, later identified as Trask C. Smith. When the case first opened it was breaking news all over the tri state area. Reporting that toxicolgy, and an autopsy were to be done to help determine cause of death. He had alcohol and thc in his system. He had significant blunt force trauma to his head and torso. As well as fluid in his lungs. The coroner ruled the cause of death undetermined. It was reported that Illinois State Police were going to investigate the case.  After 5 months of an "investigation" the ISP closed the case, even tho his cause of death was and still is undetermined.

The investigation they did raised more questions than it provided answers. There were several eyewitnesses from the evening and video evidence to cooberate their accounts of the events that transpired that evening, leading to the dicovery of his body in that shallow ditch early the next morning.

However, the alleged suspect was never questioned. All the video evidence that is extremely compelling and backs up eye witness accounts, was inadmissable because someone leaked the videos before the cops could subponea them, even tho they were told about the videos by witnesses. So, that was the only investigating they did. The community feels that the ISP didn't even bother to really investigate the case because they could use the toxicolgy report as the reason why Trask ended up in that shallow ditch. His fall caused his severe blunt force trauma to his torso and skull, killing him.

However, the community is not satisfied with how the ISP handled the  investigaion of this case. We feel as if they completely ignored those who were questioned even though there was physical evidence that lined up with what was being said. Trask was just chalked up as a drunken incident, and the case was closed. He never even got the chance at a trial, let alone justice.

Why is that? Was it too many interviews to do? Too much paperwork to file? I'm just speculating here, but I know I'm not alone when I say they didn't even try to get the truth of what happened that night. The whole community is perplexed as to why Trask's horrible death didn't warrant a thorough investigation. They offered no solice or peace, by denying to do their job.

Once the case was closed, it was only reported by the local media. Why is that? Why wasn't their official stance on his case breaking news all over the tristate area, like when his body was discovered. It was like his identity was more important than his cause of death. Or was it because the ISP did such a terrible investigation, that the news wanted to hide it? After all, no one cares about an intoxicated man falling to his death in a shallow ditch.

Trask was denied a proper investigation, because there was an easier explanation, so that was the route they took. Denying Trask a chance at a fair trial and justice. His mother denied peace and a community left with questions we could have gotten answers to had a proper investigation been done. We want answers, but we want them answered in a court of law. A fair trial that includes witness testimony and evidence shown. No more conjecture that has just caused more confusion and hurt. Plus, our community strongly believes there is a psychotic and dangerous killer just walking free. Imagine how that must make Misty feel. I can't to be honest.

We want Trask's justice to be breaking news, just as his death was. The community demands justice for Trask, via fair trial! We want our questions answered. We want to not live in fear of this type of thing happening again. Justice denied to one is, is an injustice done to us all. Trask's life mattered. Him getting a fair trial matters. Justice matters!
