Urge Warner Bros. Discovery to Revive "Too Funny to Sleep" on TBS

Urge Warner Bros. Discovery to Revive "Too Funny to Sleep" on TBS
The Issue
As an avid night owl and TV enthusiast, I fondly remember the late-night programming block on TBS called "Too Funny to Sleep". From October 1, 2004, until late 2006, "Too Funny to Sleep" graced our screens from 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. ET, with a repeat from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. ET. It provided a platform for Mr. Show with Bob and David and encored a variety of cherished shows from Adult Swim, such as Family Guy, Futurama, Baby Blues, The Oblongs, and Mission Hill.
This provided an entertaining mix of comedy and animation for adults, not limiting Friday to only children's programming. It was a favorite among many, however it was unfortunately replaced by Adult Swim on Fridays. The return of this block, and with it Cartoon Network's 24-hour Friday schedule, would bring back a much-missed element to our TV screens.
Allow Cartoon Network to run 24 hours on Fridays, enabling it to go beyond its current timeshare restrictions.
Maintain the Adult Swim/Cartoon Network timeshare on Sunday through Thursday nights, keeping Adult Swim as a staple nighttime block.
The removal of this block signaled the end of an era and a disservice to those who enjoyed a dose of humor during late-night hours. For all those who utilized this block as an escape from the mundane or a source of late-night entertainment, it is a significant loss. Therefore, we are seeking a revival of "Too Funny to Sleep" by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Historically, late-night programming has proven to be extremely successful. Networks see increased viewer participation during these hours, with CBS’s "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" seeing millions of viewers per night as of 2020 (source: Nielsen Media Research). By reinstating "Too Funny to Sleep", TBS will not only be catering to a significant audience base but also reestablishing a cherished piece of television culture.
Current Friday night programming lacks exciting adult animation. Cartoon Network needs to be 24 hours for kids, while Adult Swim needs a dedicated, prime Friday slot to thrive without interrupting that. Furthermore, the proposed merger/acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) by Paramount/Skydance threatens to dissolve the unique, experimental culture of Adult Swim/TBS.
Here's the Schedule for TBS's Too Funny to Sleep block on Saturdays (late-night Fridays):
- 12:00am/3:00am: Family Guy
- 12:30am/3:30am: American Dad!
- 1:00am/4:00am: Bob's Burgers
- 1:30am/4:30am: Futurama
- 2:00am/5:00am: Selected Too Funny to Sleep Shows
- Mr. Show with Bob and David
- Baby Blues
- The Oblongs
- Mission Hill
- 2:30am/5:30am: Selected Too Funny to Sleep Shows
- Mr. Show with Bob and David
- Baby Blues
- The Oblongs
- Mission Hill
It is time to bring back this golden age of late-night television viewing on TBS. Sign the petition and let Warner Bros. Discovery know that we want to see "Too Funny to Sleep" return to our screens from 12:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. ET, with a repeat from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. ET, providing a platform for Family Guy, American Dad!, Bob's Burgers, Futurama, Mr. Show with Bob and David, Baby Blues, The Oblongs, and Mission Hill.
