The Issue

As a dedicated individual running a small, independent rescue operation, I am all too familiar with the challenges of caring for stray, sick, and abandoned cats. Our rescue and others have become the lifeblood of animal welfare amidst a cat crisis in the UK. The RSPCA and Cats Protection League, large organisations funded by public donations, discontinued their essential neutering schemes which were relied upon by low-income families. This has led to an increased number of cats in the streets, more pressures on rescue operations, and a staggering rise in our veterinary costs.

For years, small rescue organizations like ours have been picking up the pieces and carrying out, without any compensation, the roles that larger rescue organizations should be fulfilling. It is not just financially draining, but a vast inequality in how work and funds are distributed within the animal welfare sector. We seek rectification.

We call upon the UK Government to ensure that larger rescue organizations like the RSPCA and Cats Protection League reimburse small, independent rescue operations for the vet costs incurred due to their neglect. It is only fair to redirect the public donations to where they’re most needed, effectively serving the animal community.

Help us bring about fairness, secure better welfare for these animals, and deliver the public's goodwill properly. Please sign this petition. Demand systemic finance redistribution in animal welfare.
