Urge Twin Creeks Country Club to replace destroyed pool covering
The Issue
I am writing to address a pressing issue at the Twin Creeks Community pool in Cedar Park, Texas. For our family and many others in our community, the pool is a wonderful place to spend time, especially during my son's swim meets (hats off to Coach Annabelle and her staff for turning the Twister's program around). However, it's become increasingly challenging to enjoy these moments because there's little shade, and absolutely no shade available during meets.
In May of 2025, the much-needed awning or covering at the pool fell, leaving everyone exposed to the relentless Texas heat. The club's decision to replace this vital structure with nothing more than fragile backyard home umbrellas has not been sufficient, as one has started breaking down already and they don't cover much space at all.
The country club justifies their decision not to replace the covering with the need for lifeguards to have a clear line of sight between pools. Yet, is this the most effective solution? Lifeguards assigned to different areas should focus their attention appropriately, ensuring safety without compromising the comfort and health of those using the pool facilities.
I know that there are projects that the club prioritizes, but we do pay dues so we should have a say as to what those priorities are. The lack of shade is a serious issue that diminishes the usability and enjoyment of our community pool. It's vital that Twin Creeks takes action to restore a durable and effective awning or covering, ensuring that everyone, especially vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly, can enjoy the pool safely and comfortably attend a swim meet in this sweltering Texas sun. Shade is not merely a luxury but a necessity in the scorching Texas heat.
