Update: New Petition Created Regarding 2026 Sewer Fee Changes

Thank you again to everyone who supported this petition and helped bring attention to the sewer billing concerns in our community.

Since this petition was originally created, residents in the Mary Lane Utility District recently received a new letter dated March 6, 2026 from the Village of Lac La Belle outlining additional changes to sewer billing. These changes involve incorporating costs that were previously part of the tax levy into quarterly sewer user fees and dividing them evenly among residences.

Because this represents a new development and a different fee structure, residents have created a new petition specifically addressing the 2026 sewer fee allocation changes.

If you previously signed this petition, please consider signing the new one as well so your voice continues to be counted.

Thank you again for staying involved and helping ensure residents’ concerns are heard.

--------------

The Village of Lac La Belle plans to change how we’re billed for sanitary sewer service starting in January 2026, requiring property owners to pay for an entire year upfront instead of smaller, manageable payments throughout the year.

This means paying OVER $1200+ all at once, right after the holidays—at the same time as property taxes, winter heating bills, and other big annual expenses. For many property owners, especially seniors and families on fixed incomes, that’s simply not affordable.

We believe there’s a better way. Other communities bill monthly or quarterly, giving property owners a fair and predictable way to budget while still keeping utility operations running smoothly.

We’re asking the Village Board of Lac La Belle to reconsider this change and explore options that work for everyone—monthly, quarterly, or other reasonable payment plans that don’t create financial stress for local families.

💥💥💥💥💥

Please sign and share this petition if you agree that paying for a full year of sewer service upfront is unfair and unnecessary. Together, we can make sure our voices are heard and help keep Lac La Belle a community that looks out for its residents.

NOTE: It is completely OPTIONAL to donate to Change.org, but you might get confused with their wording right after signing the petition and with them making it look like you need to pay- THIS IS COMPLETELY FREE, so look at the very bottom and click/choose “Sorry, I can’t do anything right now” at the very bottom after signing- if you don't want to donate to Change.org. Your signing is FREE and will go through. Our apologies that they've made it a little confusing for people.
