Urge the UKFPO to Review the Allocation Process of F1 Junior Doctor Jobs

The Issue

We are a group of medical students set to begin our F1 programme in August. Recently, we've been subjected to a new system that randomly allocates rankings and assigns deaneries and jobs based on these rankings. While some were fortunate enough to receive their first choice, many others found themselves placed in their 9th, 12th, 15th or even 18th option. The next step in this process maintain our randomised ranking order which further disadvantages those with lower rankings.

Directly from the UKFPO website 'the same computer-generated rank will be used when allocating applicants at group/programme match stage. Applicants will not receive a new rank for group/programme matching. The same rank will be used at all stages.'

This is a double penalty for many students who have worked incredibly hard over their time at medical school.

Please sign this petition urging the UKFPO to review the next round of rankings. Either students who were given their 10-18th options should have priority or all students in that deanery should be randomised so everyone has fair and equal opportunity.

Your support can make a significant difference in shaping a fairer future for all medical students entering their professional journey as doctors.

This system is not only unfair but also demoralising for us who have worked tirelessly throughout our studies only to be left at the mercy of an arbitrary allocation process. It's crucial that we ensure a fairer and more transparent allocation process that takes into account individual preferences and efforts.

The UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) has the power and responsibility to address this issue. We call upon them to reconsider this allocation process for F1 Junior Doctor jobs, ensuring it is equitable, transparent, and respects the hard work put forth by each student.
