The Issue

This year (2025) Norway has increased their minke whale quota to 1,406 whales. The nature of this act is deeply concerning as whales are sentient animals with no justified reason to be brutally murdered.

Norway remains one of the very few countries that still actively engages in commercial whaling, a practice broadly recognized as ethically unjust and ecologically damaging worldwide. Commercial whaling was banned worldwide in 1986 but there are still a few countries that continue to do it.

Norway's decision to increase its minke whale quota is a devastating step backward for animal rights and global conservation efforts. It's essentially defying the global trend into recognizing and respecting the sentient lives of the ocean.

The United Kingdom, has the potential and duty to influence positive change. We implore the UK government to use its significant international influence to urge the Norwegian government to reconsider this decision and ultimately, ban whaling.

This petition is more than just about the whales; it is about conserving our wildlife, maintaining our ecological balance, respecting animal rights, and preserving the wonderment of our world for future generations. Your signature can make a difference.
