Urge the Tanzanian Government to Reinstate Cross-Border Wildlife Protection Agreement
The issue
I have had the privilege of standing beside elephants in Africa and Asia, an experience that has deeply moved me. These majestic creatures have much to teach us about empathy, community, and survival. Yet today, they face a grave threat from trophy hunters. This is particularly true for the super tuskers - elephants with tusks long enough to reach the ground - who roam between Kenya and Tanzania. With less than 25 left in the world, their situation is dire.
We are calling on the Tanzanian government to reinstate a cross-border agreement with Kenya for wildlife protection. This agreement would provide crucial safeguards against trophy hunting for all wildlife but would be especially significant for protecting our remaining super tuskers.
According to World Wildlife Fund (WWF), African elephant populations have declined by over 60% over the last decade due largely to poaching (WWF). Reinstating this agreement could help reverse this trend and ensure these magnificent animals continue to grace our planet.
We implore you not just as concerned citizens but as stewards of this Earth's diverse life forms. Help us protect these irreplaceable creatures from extinction by urging Tanzania's government to take action now.
Please sign this petition today; let's give our super tuskers a fighting chance at survival!
Our world's biodiversity is under threat, and one of the most pressing issues is the hunting of endangered animals, particularly Super Tusker Elephants. These majestic creatures are on the brink of extinction with less than 25 remaining globally. Trophy hunting companies are exploiting them for profit, leaving their carcasses to be burnt.
The cross-border agreement between Kenya and Tanzania that prohibited hunting in these regions was a significant step towards protecting these animals. However, its recent revocation has exposed these vulnerable species to increased risk.
By reinstating this agreement, we can provide a safe haven for not only Super Tusker Elephants but also other hunted species whose populations are dwindling rapidly due to unregulated hunting practices.
We urge the Tanzanian government to take immediate action by reinstating this critical cross-border agreement with Kenya. This move will demonstrate Tanzania's commitment towards preserving global biodiversity and ensuring that future generations can appreciate the beauty and importance of these magnificent creatures.
