Urge the State Highway Administration to Protect Butterfly Habitats!

The Issue

As someone who has dedicated countless hours to raising Monarch Butterflies, I can tell you firsthand: these delicate creatures are fighting for their lives. And without milkweed—the only plant where Monarchs lay their eggs and the sole food source for their caterpillars—they simply cannot survive.

This year alone, in 2025, I have personally raised and released over 240 Monarchs. That’s 240 lives—born, nurtured, and set free into the world. Imagine how many more could thrive if their habitats were properly protected. With support from the community and help from something as simple as signage, I could raise hundreds more. We all could.

That’s why it’s heartbreaking to see the State Highway Administration removing Butterfly Habitat signs—signs that not only protected vital areas but served as powerful reminders of what’s at stake. These signs weren’t just markers; they were promises to our environment, to these butterflies, and to future generations.

Monarchs aren’t just beautiful—they’re essential. They help pollinate our flowers, support biodiversity, and serve as indicators of a healthy ecosystem (National Wildlife Federation, 2019). When we lose them, we lose more than just a butterfly—we lose balance.

If the administration won’t maintain the existing Butterfly Habitat signage, the very least we can ask for is the installation of “No Mowing, No Spraying” signs. These simple actions can mean the difference between life and death for an entire generation of Monarchs.

Please—stand with me. Not just for the butterflies I’ve raised, but for the countless others that will never get the chance if we stay silent. Sign this petition, and let’s urge the State Highway Administration to recognize the value of what we’re protecting. Let’s be their voice—before it’s too late.
