Urge the Saudi Government to Allow Muslims with Refugee Travel Documents to Perform Hajj and Umrah
The Issue
As a Muslim refugee residing in the UK, I am deeply affected by the current policy of the Saudi government that prohibits Muslims holding Refugee Travel Documents from performing Hajj or Umrah. This is a fundamental right for all Muslims, irrespective of their document status.
Hajj and Umrah are significant religious duties for every Muslim who is physically and financially capable. It's estimated that around 2 million people perform Hajj annually, while millions more perform Umrah (Pew Research Center). However, this right is denied to those carrying Refugee Travel Documents.
The ban on refugees performing these sacred rites not only infringes upon our religious freedom but also isolates us from our community. The type of travel document we hold should not be a barrier to fulfilling our religious obligations.
We call upon the Saudi government to review this policy urgently and allow all Muslims, regardless of their refugee status or type of travel documents they hold, to perform Hajr and Umrah. Please sign this petition urging them to lift this ban immediately.
