Urge the Riverside County Sheriff to Make Radio Communication Available to the Public

Urge the Riverside County Sheriff to Make Radio Communication Available to the Public
The Issue
I am a concerned individual who has grown up in Riverside County, CA, USA, deeply committed to the principle of law enforcement transparency and accountability. In line with our collective belief that law enforcement exists to serve and protect us—the people—I am making a request for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department to decrypt its dispatch channels for public access. This petition does not target every aspect of law enforcement communications, but seeks to focus on those dispatch channels whose openness can contribute to our understanding of everyday on-duty responsibilities, responding to community needs and ensuring officer accountability.
The National Emergency Number Association (NEMA) pushes for transparency and accountability in dispatch processes, affirming that accessible, non-sensitive communications between emergency departments build public trust. By adopting a policy of open access, or implementing a time-delayed audio feed, we could put Riverside County at the forefront of such commendable law enforcement initiatives. This move would empower citizens with informed perspectives while helping ensure official actions align with our shared community values.
I urge the Riverside County Sheriff's Department to consider decrypting dispatch channels or at least implementing public time-delayed audio feeds of each station. This is not just about access to information—it is about commitment to our community, building stronger ties with those who serve and protect us, and holding our law enforcement to the highest standard of professionalism and accountability. Please join me in this appeal and sign this petition today.
Law enforcement officials always say "Beware of your surroundings," but if the public are shut out of everyday operations, how is anyone supposed to know what is happening. Also imagine someone who is unable to be in law enforcement due to a disability. Don't you think that they would enjoy getting to hear what is going on and learn about the things that interest them ?
