I am a lifelong resident of San Diego and a dedicated Padres fan for over 40 years. From my first T-ball game, my heart has been with this team. However, the recent introduction of the city connect uniforms has left me and many others in our community disappointed. These uniforms do not reflect our city's identity or spirit, and frankly, they are ugly.

The Padres are an integral part of San Diego's culture and history. The team was established in 1969 and has since become a symbol of our city's resilience and determination. Yet these new uniforms seem to disregard that rich heritage.

Moreover, sports uniform design can significantly impact both players' performance and fans' perception. A study found that teams wearing black uniforms were more likely to be penalized for aggressive fouls possibly due to negative associations with the color (source: Journal of Personality and Social Psychology). While our situation may not be identical, it underscores how crucial appropriate representation through uniforms can be.

We urge the management at San Diego Padres to reconsider their decision about these city connect uniforms. Let us return to attire that truly represents who we are as a community - proud supporters of the San Diego Padres.
