An Open Letter to the  leaders, Government and People of Canada Regarding International Students Study and Work Permit Extension.

The Urgent Appeal to Action - Immediate Halt to the Deportation Process for Law-Abiding International Students and Graduates with No Criminal Record Who Entered Legally on Study Permits.

If the Government of Canada determines that it can no longer grant these dedicated individuals the right to live, work, and thrive peacefully in this society, then we make a solemn, alternative plea. Do not cast them out.

Beyond the Blame Game: Understanding the Root Causes and Accepting Accountability for the International Student Visa Crisis Instead of Simply Blaming Students – is an outcome of the Canadian Govt. aggressive recruitment policies and a lack of oversight, which allowed unsustainable enrollment surges to outpace the housing supply and strain public infrastructure.

These young people arrived here filled with hope, trusting in the promise of a fair path forward. They have poured their youth, their savings, their hard work, and their deep passion into building communities across this country.

Now, due to sudden and drastic shifts in immigration policies, many find themselves on the brink of deportation. They are facing the expiration of their study and work permits with no clear way to stay. The psychological and emotional toll on these residents is immense. They feel abandoned by the nation they have chosen to call home.

Proposed Pathways for Retention

1. Economic Integration

The International Student Entrepreneur Program: Utilize this dedicated pathway to allow international students to leverage their Canadian education and skills by making a minimum business investment of $100,000 CAD with minimum 51% holding.

2. Service-Based Pathways (Alternative Plea)

If you cannot offer them a standard path to residency, let them prove their ultimate loyalty to Canada. Give them the right to serve this country in its hours of greatest need. Open up pathways for them to step into high-risk, critical roles where Canada consistently faces severe labour shortages and operational challenges:

• Wildfire Suppression: Allow them to join the frontlines to battle the intensifying forest fires threatening Canadian towns and natural resources.
• National Defense and Military: Open positions within the Canadian Armed Forces so they can legally pledge their lives to protect Canadian sovereignty.
• First Response and Security:  including roles like emergency medical services, structural firefighting, or community security.

In brief: if you cannot offer them the standard right to live here, offer them the right to risk their lives serving this country.

Currently, more than 500,000 international students are a part of the Canadian education system, contributing billions to the Canadian economy annually. According to Statistics Canada, international students contribute approximately $22 billion per year and support about 170,000 jobs. However, the rigid regulations concerning permit extensions threaten this contribution by creating instability and anxiety among students.

I urge my fellow Canadians, educational institutions, and policymakers to recognize the vital role international students play and to take decisive action in extending and simplifying study and work permits.
