Urge the Government to Grant Green Cards to DACA Recipients

Urge the Government to Grant Green Cards to DACA Recipients
The Issue
I was brought to this country by my parents, and I am so glad that they came. Because they came legally, I was lucky to easily gain US citizenship, and to get an excellent college education. But for the 650,000 children whose parents were brave enough or desperate enough to come illegally, the road has been much tougher.
Like me, these people know no other homeland. They contribute positively to our society in ways almost as diverse as the people who were born here, serving as essential workers, educators, business owners, physicians, scientists, and so much more. Despite their contributions, current law provides no clear pathway to permanent residency or citizenship, and leaves them at risk of deportation at the whim of the government. Although the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) gave them temporary respite from deportation, it requires periodic renewals, and under the upcoming Trump Administration, those renewals are not likely to be authorized.
Therefore, we call upon the government to recognize the hardships and uncertainties faced by DACA recipients, as well as their contributions to America, and to take a stance for change. Let us lend our voices to advocate for their secure future in what is their country. It's not merely an issue of law; it's an issue of justice and of providing an opportunity for dedicated individuals to contribute to the only homeland they know: the United States of America.
We urge the government to grant Green Cards to DACA recipients, recognizing them as the integral part of our society that they truly are. They should have received Green Cards years ago, and it needs to happen NOW, before it’s too late!
