The Issue

I live in a house located off Orchard Lakes Drive, a property that's sadly adjacent to highway 270. The constant noise emanating from the traffic has transformed our once peaceful backyard into an unbearable space, effectively making it unusable. Yet, more pressingly, the clamor created by the freeway doesn't only damage our tranquility, it also poses a real health risk to my family members.

Adding to the personal burden, this issue extends to many other homes found on the east side of highway 270, between Olive and Page Blvd. It's clear that something must be done. We're calling on the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDoT) to construct a sound wall along this specific highway stretch, aiming at reducing the noise by at least five dBA.

Sound wall constructions are more than a high-priced luxury; they respond to a health and well-being necessity. Indeed, according to the World Health Organization, exposure to noise levels above 55 dBA for prolonged periods can lead to health problems such as stress, sleep disorders, and even heart disease. Residents should be able to enjoy their backyards and live without the constant noise nuisance and threat.

We urge MoDoT to take swift and decisive action to improve the quality of life for those living adjacent to highway 270. By building a sound wall, they will not only help inhabitants regain their backyard peace but also safeguard their health from traffic-related noise pollution.

We kindly call on all concerned citizens to join us in this campaign and support our petition. Your signature can make a significant difference and push for the change we urgently need.
