I am deeply affected by the recent decisions that our Council has made. School streets are being placed where there are no schools, and double yellow lines are being drawn in front of our local small businesses, forcing many of them into closure. Despite the majority of our community members voicing our opposition, unfortunately, these schemes continue to move forward. This isn't democracy. Instead, it is an undermining of the public consultation process, dismissing our collective voice as insignificant. It is critical that our council respects the results of these consultations which represent us, the local taxpayers. Consultation is not just a box-ticking exercise; it is a meaningful process that promotes transparency, discernment, and community participation. We must stand together and require our council to honor the consultation results and consult appropriately. Remember, local government exists to represent and serve the interests of its citizens.
