Urge the City of Toronto to Preserve Music Rehearsal Spaces at 160 Islington

The Issue

As a musician and entrepreneur, I have witnessed the devastating loss of music rehearsal spaces in our beloved city. Over the past few years, we've lost over 140 such spaces. This is about preserving our vibrant music culture and providing opportunities for artists to create and collaborate.

Now, another cherished space at 160 Islington is under threat by developers. We need your help to save it. We are asking the City of Toronto to purchase this property and lease it to a local start-up like Music Mansion who can maintain its use as a rehearsal space.

The loss of these spaces has far-reaching impacts on our community. According to Statistics Canada, Toronto's arts sector contributes significantly to the economy with over $11 billion in GDP annually (Statistics Canada). There are over 56,000 full-time artists living in Toronto.  By preserving these spaces, we not only support local musicians but also contribute towards maintaining this economic contribution.

We are calling on you - fellow musicians, artists, entrepreneurs and lovers of music - let us band together and urge the City of Toronto to take action now before we lose another piece of our musical heritage.
