Urge the City of McMinnville to Proclaim Pride Month & Raise the Pride Flag

The Issue

We call on the City of McMinnville to continue its tradition of recognizing LGBTQIA+ Pride Month by issuing a proclamation and raising the Pride flag at City Hall in June.

Since 2020, under Republican and Democratic leadership, the City of McMinnville has formally acknowledged Pride Month. These proclamations reflect the City’s values of equity, stewardship, courage, and accountability—and they affirm that LGBTQIA+ people are a vital part of this community.

In a recent policy statement, the City of McMinnville limited proclamations to those directly related to City matters or honoring individuals. Pride Month clearly qualifies: the City employs LGBTQIA+ individuals, serves LGBTQIA+ residents, and benefits from their businesses, volunteerism, and community engagement. These connections are direct, ongoing, and essential to civic life.

Being LGBTQIA+ is not a political identity. Living openly is a reflection of the freedoms we all value. Pride Month affirms that everyone—students, neighbors, workers, and business owners—deserves visibility and belonging.

Add your name to urge the City of McMinnville to issue a 2025 Pride proclamation and fly the Pride flag in June. Inclusion is not optional; It’s foundational.

Proposed City of McMinnville Proclamation: LGBTQIA+ Pride Month

WHEREAS, the City of McMinnville recognizes that LGBTQIA+ individuals are essential members of our community—serving in the City’s workforce, accessing public services, and contributing to civic life through business ownership, volunteerism, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, the values of the City of McMinnville—equity, stewardship, courage, and accountability—compel us to ensure that every resident is respected, protected, and welcomed in our shared public life; and

WHEREAS, student- and community-led organizations including the McMinnville High School Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA), Linfield University Pride, Wine Country Pride, and the McMinnville Trans Network are directly engaged in promoting inclusion, education, advocacy, and celebration for LGBTQIA+ individuals within the City of McMinnville; and

WHEREAS, acknowledging LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is consistent with the City’s historical practice since 2020 and aligns with the City’s commitment to recognizing events and communities that are directly connected to the people of McMinnville; and

WHEREAS, being LGBTQIA+ is not a political statement, but the ability to live openly, safely, and authentically is fundamental to the freedoms we uphold as a democratic society;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, [Mayor’s Full Name], Mayor of the City of McMinnville, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2025 as:

LGBTQIA+ PRIDE MONTH

in the City of McMinnville, and encourage all residents to reflect on the strength found in diversity, the resilience of our LGBTQIA+ community, and the ongoing work required to build a city where everyone can thrive with safety, dignity, and pride.
