As a regular traveler in London, I am deeply concerned about the proposed removal of the daily Travelcard by Transport for London (TfL). This change will significantly increase travel fares for those using trains and public transport in and around London. In some cases, the cost of daily travel could double, making it financially burdensome for many individuals.

This fare hike is not just a matter of personal finance but also has wider implications on our environment. The increased costs may deter people from using public transport and push them towards private vehicles. This shift would inevitably lead to higher carbon emissions and worsen air quality across the south east of England.

The UK government has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 78% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels (source: UK Government's Sixth Carbon Budget). However, this move by TfL seems counterproductive to that goal.

We urge TfL to reconsider their plans and retain the daily Travelcard ticketing system. It is essential not only for maintaining affordable access to transportation but also crucial in our collective fight against climate change.
