Urge Texas State Department to Issue Emergency Asylum for Haitian Children
The Issue
My sister's family is in the process of adopting Nordly Snelgrooes, a child from Haiti. This personal journey has opened our eyes to the plight of numerous children in Haiti who are waiting for their forever homes. Unfortunately, bureaucratic red tape and slow-moving processes are keeping these innocent lives in limbo.
Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, has an estimated 430,000 orphans according to UNICEF. These children live under harsh conditions with limited access to basic necessities like food and clean water. The situation worsens as political instability continues unabated.
Haiti is on the brink of Civil War. We are asking that you lead a campaign to bring adoptee's home in the final stages of the adoption process home today under emergency asylum.
The adoption file of Nordly Snelgrooes is in the last stage of the Haitian Courts, The Ministry of Interior (MOI), from here our file would be sent to the US Embassy in Port Au Prince for Visa issuance. The Embassy will claim the last step is to ensure Nordly is not being trafficked. Nordly’s file has already been reviewed and approved by USCIS. Nordly’s file includes his mothers death certificate and all necessary paperwork from his Father signing his rights away after his mothers passing. Nordly was orphaned, abandoned and is now trapped in a black hole of bureaucracy.
A civil war is imminent, last weekend over 4,000 prisoners were freed by the gangs to build their army. This is not an if situation but a when. The main gang leader is calling for Genocide. The government is non operational and will be for the foreseeable future. Are we to continue waiting and just hope Nordly isn’t murdered? Again, his file has already been approved by USCIS saying he is adoptable, we have been cleared by the Haitian Government. Is bureaucracy going to get him killed?
The State Department has moved from a Level 4 – Do Not Travel advisory to “U.S. citizens in Haiti should depart Haiti as soon as possible”. The State Departments notice also includes language that the Embassy is not able to facilitate air travel for private citizens. Does this also include orphans? What can we do to bring our children out of the coming genocide?
We urge the Texas State Department to issue emergency asylum for these children from Haiti and expedite adoption processes where possible. By doing so, we can provide these children with a chance at a better life while alleviating some of the strain on Haiti's overburdened orphanages.
The time is now for us to act swiftly and decisively on behalf of these vulnerable children who have no voice or choice in their circumstances. Please sign this petition urging our state department officials to prioritize issuing emergency asylum for Haitian orphans awaiting adoption.
Will you please consider sending the above or a version of it to the following contacts or any other contact you may have within the US Government. Thanks so much!
