Urge Stagecoach to Provide Sunday Bus Services between Ulverston and Swarthmoor

The Issue

For many of us living in Ulverston and Swarthmoor, the local bus service is more than just a means of transportation - it's a lifeline. We rely on this service for travel, especially on Sundays when taxis are scarce, particularly during evening hours. Our local businesses such as the Miners Arms, known for its excellent Sunday lunch buffet and live entertainment, and Swarthmoor Football Club depend on public transport for customer, staff and team travel.

Stagecoach are changing the X6/6 Bus route to go via Main Road to Croftlands, rather than down the A590 through Swarthmoor, Three Bridges and past the Blue Light Hub. There's more than enough traffic going down Main Road and getting out of Park Road and Park Field is dangerous.

Our elderly community members and those without cars need this bus service to reach shops, pubs, and restaurants in town. The lack of a Sunday bus service between Ulverston and Swarthmoor is not just an inconvenience; it's a barrier that isolates residents from essential services.

It is estimated that around 20% of households in our area do not have access to a car (source: UK National Travel Survey). This makes public transport crucial for these households' mobility. By providing Sunday services between Ulverston and Swarthmoor, Stagecoach can significantly improve the quality of life for these residents.

We urge Stagecoach to recognise the importance of this issue by reinstating their Sunday services between Ulverston and Swarthmoor. Please sign this petition if you believe in accessible transportation for all our residents!
