On Sunday 27th September 2026, Services 38 & 39 are changing. The routes will be massively changing, with lots of benefit’s including both routes serving Sylvan Drive, Gunville, Carisbrooke High Street, ASDA & Pan Estate.

But these benefits come at a cost, and the cost is

* Shide Road’s 2 stops will have no bus service

*Medina Avenue’s 3 stops will have just 5 buses Monday-Friday, down from 21 currently

* Hinton Road & Westmill Road’s 5 bus stops will have just 5 buses Monday-Friday, down from 21 currently 

* No buses to Riverway Business area

Newport Bus Station - St James’ Street - Vicarage Walk - Foxes Road (SAINSBURYS) - Sylvan Drive - Mountbatten Drive - Wellington Road - Purdy Road - Fieldfare Road - Taylor Road (ARGOS) - Gunville Road - Priory Road - Carisbrooke High Street - Cedar Hill - Whitepit Lane - St John’s Road - Medina Avenue - Church Litten - Newport Bus Station.
This will operate 
Monday - Saturday daytime every 30 minutes 
Monday - Saturday evenings & Sundays every hour

Newport Bus Station - St James’ Street - Medina Avenue - St George’s Approach - St George’s Way - Godric Road (ASDA) - Staplers Road - Furrlongs - St George’s Way - St George’s Approach - Medina Avenue - Church Litten - Newport Bus Station
This will operate 
Monday - Saturday daytime every 30 minutes 
Monday - Saturday evenings & Sundays every hour

This will operate 
Monday - Friday daytime (school hours) every hour
No weekend or evening service 

These planned alterations will remove stops that are crucial for many residents, particularly the elderly and others with limited mobility. For many residents these routes represent not just transportation but their connection to essential services, social opportunities, and independence. The proposed changes will make it exceedingly difficult for those without alternative transport means to go about their daily lives.

I understand that changes might be aimed at improving efficiency and connectivity. However, any benefits perceived should not come at the expense of other communities well-being and accessibility. I urge Southern Vectis & the Isle of Wight Council to organise community consultations and reassess the impact of these changes.
