Urge Shelby County Board to support Coach George Drake
Urge Shelby County Board to support Coach George Drake
The Issue

Coach George Drake has been an integral part of Calera High School, transforming the lives of countless young athletes. Through his commitment and leadership, he has not only fostered a sense of community but also elevated the school's basketball program to heights unseen in years. This year, under Coach Drake's guidance, our basketball team reached The Final Four, a pinnacle of achievement last seen when Coach Drake was a player himself. His dedication to developing our students' skills and character is unmatched, and his departure would mark a significant loss for both our school and community.
Currently, there are concerning reports of inequality in the support provided to Coach Drake, his staff, and the basketball program by the Calera High School Administration. These discrepancies threaten to undermine the success and integrity of the program. We cannot afford to lose such a valuable asset due to administrative shortcomings. Therefore, we urge the Shelby County Board of Education to step in and facilitate a fair and effective compromise between Coach Drake and the school administration.
A positive resolution would not only retain an exemplary coach but also send a resounding message about prioritizing fairness and recognizing excellence in educational and extracurricular programs. It’s vital for decision-makers to understand the profound impact Coach Drake has had on students and the broader community. His holistic approach to coaching has transformed lives, instilled strong values, and brought diverse groups together.
We are calling on our community and supporters of youth sports to join us in ensuring Coach Drake can continue his work. By signing this petition, you stand with us in solidarity, advocating for justice and fairness. Your signature can help safeguard the future of our basketball program and uphold the principles of equality and respect. Please sign and share this petition to show your support.
